Committee Service

Service on any one of NGFA’s 15 committees, the Board of Directors and Executive Committee offers the opportunity to shape NGFA policy and priorities. Newer career professionals can get involved by being selected for the Committee Apprentice Program (CAP).

Professional Development

In addition to the networking offered by committee service with peers in the industry, NGFA offers in-person and virtual networking and collaboration opportunities for members throughout the year. The two largest meetings each year — The NGFA Annual Convention and the NGFA’s Country Elevator Conference — offer excellent programming and business information with opportunities to develop critical industry business contacts. NGFA also partners with Grain Journal and the Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) for the annual CONVEY conference each July. Regional workshops on safety and feed regulatory compliance and the biennial Trade Rules Seminars offer additional opportunities for professional development.

Safety Resources

A full suite of NGFA safety tools, including guidance documents and online training resources exclusive to members, are available on ngfa.org/safety. NGFA also partners with Regional and State Affiliates each year to host several regional safety and regulatory workshops.

Feed Resources

In addition to in-depth guidance documents on FDA regulations exclusive to members, NGFA offers several distance learning courses on animal food safety and operations issues at a discounted price to NGFA members. NGFA and Kansas State University partner to conduct multiple Preventive Controls for Animal Food Courses each year in Manhattan, Kan.

Trade Rules

When companies join NGFA, they agree to abide by NGFA’s Trade Rules, which govern all financial, mercantile and commercial transactions involving grain. Maintained solely by NGFA, they are dynamic and responsive to current business practices.

Contract Arbitration

Believed to be North America’s oldest industry-based arbitration system, the NGFA Arbitration System provides a quick, inexpensive alternative to resolving trade disputes in court. Arbitration is compulsory between NGFA Active members if requested by one party; non-members may access the arbitration system only if the other party is an NGFA member.

Rail Arbitration/Mediation

A historic agreement between NGFA and railroads provides Active, Allied and Transportation members with the opportunity to submit certain classes of rail disputes to binding NGFA Arbitration.
